Our Company's tale is strongly embedded with the maritime adventure in which both reunion island and its port have been through over the centuries.

Our Stevedoring activity has started at the begining of the 19th century by Captain Michel. Ship operations are back then done through barges called in french "accon" which has been translated into making us "acconiers". These accons were discharging back to the shore in what we use to call "Marines" in St denis and St Paul.

At the end of the 19th century, our activities have been transfered to the newly built port Pointe des Galets in Le port City. This is the root of the "Marine Michel" as stevedore involved in the Port. 100 years late, in the 70's, the descendants of Captain Michel , Jacques Potier are brining a strong developmeent into the group by expanding the scope of its activity. From Car rentals to hotels, the group is also expanding its footprint out of the Reunion island across the region.

In 2018, Through an LBO, the shareholding of the company is unified back to the original root family and the 7th Generation is now leading the expansion of the group both in its original territory and internationally.

French State bailing as well the "Marines" in st Denis allowing private operators to create their stevedores compay in compensation. Societe Georges Michel is officially created and based in Pointe des Galets.

Birth of Jacques Potiers, General Manager of SGM from 1954 to 1979.

Ratification de la Loi fixant le Statut des Dockers en France, création du Bureau Central de la Main d’Oeuvre (BCMO).

Naissance de Georges Michel, quatrième du nom, président de la SGM de 1979 à 2003.

Diversification progressive du Groupe dans les secteurs touristique, aérien et à l’international.

Création du G.I.E. Groupement Patrimonial des Acconiers au Port, gestion humaine et matérielle des Dockers pour le compte de SGM, actionnaire à 33% du GIE.

Création du Syndicat des Entrepreneurs de Manutention de la Réunion, regroupant les entreprises de manutention SAMR, SOMACOM et SGM.

Création de la société SGM Location de Voitures au Port puis développement sur toute l’île.

Inauguration des bassins Est du port de la Pointe des Galets, naissance de «Port-Réunion», regroupant bassins Ouest et Est.

Création de G.G.M., Groupe Georges Michel, filialisation de SGM Manutention et de l’agence maritime G.M.C.

Installation du siège du groupe au Port Est.

Mise en oeuvre de la réforme de la manutention portuaire à La Réunion, adhésion à la Convention Collective Nationale.

Reprise au groupe Cadjee de la franchise AVIS à La Réunion. Ouverture des lignes MAERSK à La Réunion.

Rachat de GGM par Jean de La Perrière.

Concentration du groupe sur les secteurs maritimes (aconage et agence maritime) et touristique (location de voitures).

Installation de l’agence GMC à l'île Maurice, représentation de HOEGH dans les îles du sud de l’Océan Indien.

Reprise au groupe Caillé des marques BUDGET pour La Réunion et Mayotte, installation de la marque AVIS à Mayotte.

Reprise au groupe White Sand Tour de la marque AVIS à l’île Maurice. Ouverture de l’agence maritime GMC à Mayotte.

G.G.M. devient «LA PERRIERE». Création du Fond d'investissement LP ASIA base a Hong Kong.

Reprise à Mauritours de la marque BUDGET à l'île Maurice. Reprise au Groupe Marbour de l’agence maritime Robert REFORD au Canada.
